Yeovil Cycling Clubâs veteran riders saw action again at Round Two of the South West Cyclo-Cross (SWCX) League, held at Cricket St Thomas, on Sunday the 02nd of October.
The second round of the seven race series, this time organised by Chard Wheelers, saw a much more challenging and technical course than the previous round.
Yeovil CCâs Mark Fisher made an excellent start to the senior race, making it up the climb of the tarmac starting straight and into the first grass section with the leading group of favourites. Unfortunately, novice over exuberance and the wrong tyre choice for the still firm conditions soon got the better of Fisher and he took a high speed tumble on one of the fast but tricky off chamber corners. Fisher quickly remounted and, with only minor damage to himself and his machine, did his best to recover from this early setback, eventually finishing in 15th place out of the 17 finishers in his 50+ Veteran category.
In his first race of the SWCX series, Yeovil CCâs more experienced Cyclo-Cross rider, Mark Bowditch, put in a strong performance to finish in a respectable 10th place in the 50+ Veteran category.
Heidi Gould, riding for Yeovilâs Tri UK, improved upon her 2nd place in the first round of the series and moved up to the top step of the podium, finishing in 1st place out of the senior women. Gouldâs Tri UK racing partner, Darren Matthews, also put in another strong performance to finish 16th out of 37 finishers in his 40+ Veteran Category.
Round Three of the SWCX League, hosted by the Mid Devon Cycling Club, will be held at the Torbay Velo Park on the 16th of October.
