After a splendid buffet, provided by the Yeovil Sports Club, the annual redistribution of the Club silverware took place. Some of it found a new home whilst others returned to the same spot they have occupied on the mantelpiece for years.

23/11/04 Shimano Cable recall. Shimano is recalling three road racing brake cables that were produced as after-market products between April 1st 2003 and March 31st 2004. The company is offering free replacements to those consumers who purchased the affected cables, or whose bicycles have been fitted with them, however if your bike still has original cables fitted from a manufacturer it is unlikely that they have been used. Take your bike to the dealer that provided them and they will carry out the work for you.
These cables are a stainless steel brake cable and has only a road racing nipple, this is the only Shimano type effected by the recall. " It is possible that the tensile strength of the joint between the cable and the cable end (nipple) may not meet Shimano's usual standards and that therefore the nipple, when under stress during application of the brake, could pull loose or detach from the cable. This could lead to brake failure. Shimano is not aware of any case in which the nipple has separated from one of these cables during use on a bicycle."The part numbers are Y80098300, Y80098400 and Y80098110. However it is highly unlikely that you have kept the packaging, so Shimano have produced a very easy to follow PDF Instruction sheet for identifying the cables, click on the link to take you to the page for downloading the file.

18/11/04 Ticket Tout. If you haven't already sent in your request for a place at this years buffet don't forget they have to be in by the end of the month. We have a record number of members this year so we are expecting a record turn out for the buffet too!

U30 courses. The Club, and the CTT, are currently negotiating with the local police and the Highways Agency to try and retain the use of courses using the A303 in the Somerset area. Our contention has always been that it is a safer course than any other option available to us. Do you agree? If we agree to stop using it would you ride on single carriageway roads? Yeovil is the only club using the A303 course in 2005, but our evening events are attended by a wide range of other clubs. Some feedback from all you riders, or potential riders that don't like the thought of a dual carriageway course, would be greatly appreciated. Are we battling for something no-one wants? It really is a question of speak now or forever... Feedback to David Notley please.

8/11/04 Record Review. Two club records have fallen during 2004. Mike Loader has taken Dan Ellery's 25 hardrider record, with a 1:00:21 and Dave Driver has beaten Frank Duerdens longstanding vets standard 50 time with a plus 35:12. The new five course has also instigated a new club record with Andy Millward holding both the senior and veteran titles.

25/10/04 The Club Buffet and Prizegiving. Details are in the latest newsletter, a copy of which can be downloaded from the link at the bottom of this page. The annual feast will be held at the Yeovil Sports Club at lunchtime on Sunday 12 December. Reserve your place now, the cost is £7.50, or £3.75 for the under 16s, under 5s are free. Use the form in the newsletter or drop me an e-mail, and then send/give me the money before the event. David Notley.

22/10/04 The Pedaller. The latest edition of the club newsletter has been sent out today. You can also download a pdf verssion by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.

14/10/04 CTC Affiliation. The Club is affiliated to the CTC which gives it various 'corporate' insurances. Individuals can also benefit from the club's affiliation by taking out an Affiliate Membership which provides: • Third Party cover • A CTC membership card , a copy of the CTC Members Benefits book with access to a wide range of benefits and discounts • weekly e-mail newsletter – all for just £12.
For CTC Affiliated Membership there is a form that has to be submitted by the club secretary to whom membership cards and renewal invitations will be sent. The Affiliated Membership term runs from 1 October to 30 September. Full membership costs Adult £32, Senior/Unwaged £19.75, Under 18 costs £12 and Family membership costs £51.75. New, first-time full members can have 10% discount if purchased through the club. So those wanting to avail themselves of these offers need to let John Clemit know.

10/10/04 Absolom Rules. Chris managed to edge in ahead of Toby by just two seconds, and to be the only rider to break the three minute mark, at the annual club hillclimb today. The roads were dry and the sun even shone as the thirteen riders, watched by a good crowd, did battle on the High Ham Hill. Thanks to Andy P and the usual bunch of helpers, Derek, Garry and Mark for running the event and to Andy Crocker for the 'post ride' refreshments. Results

7/10/04 Midweek rides. Just spreading the word that each week I shall be doing regular cycle rides in and around Ilminster area, which will be posted on a yahoo group I've set up. So if like me you have time during the week feel free to come along. It would be good to get a group out as there must be other shift workers like me. Please visit http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/cyclotour/. Yours in sport, Steve Coates.

Burnham Rides. An extract from the Somerset RC website. We must reduce the competitive element on this ride to ensure no complaints as above (a recent club ride had resulted in a written complaint from a motorist) & increase the safety. To ensure this happens, all groups should stop or slow down when other riders have not crossed lights or round about to allow all the latter riders time to catch up at their pace. In particular at Dunball r’about, the lights in Bridgwater & the r’about at North Petherton on the return leg home. Please, if you must race, leave it until well clear of North Petherton. Remember it’s a club run, not a road race or a road rage, live to ride another day!!!

Re-guard. Perhaps this is also the time to remind everyone that our Club runs are also just that, a club run, not a race training session. So mudguards and winter bikes should be the priority from now on. Even a rear light for those dull winter mornings or blustery autumn days. You may not mind getting plastered in mud and wet but the riders behind you may do, so with the advent of race blades, as well as the more traditional fixings there is no excuse for a bike that is 'guardless'.

25/9/04 Team Spirit The rain failed to dampen the success of the Yeovil riders in the Autumn 10. Greg Sandy took first prize with a time of 20:35, whilst our own Mike Loader (21:36) took second and Chris Absolom (21.50) was fourth behind David Kiddell (21:39). Paul Barrett of 1st Chard Wheelers was fifth (21:54) whilst the Junior Pete Vincent, North Devon Wheelers, improving his pb by 30 seconds took sixth spot and first Junior with a time of 22:06. Yeovil took the team prize with Andy Millward being the third counting rider with 22:12, giving a team total of 65.38. Further honours went to Yeovil with Dave Driver taking the veterans standard prize with a plus of 6:52. A provisional results sheet, in Word format, is available now, click here. The official results will be posted out later this week.

Thanks to all the helpers that turned out to stand in the wet and especially to Andy for all his help with the signs.

23/9/04 A result, or two. The final TT results are now posted on the Results page. The Open 10 has a field of 48 riders. A start sheet in pdf form can be downloaded by clicking on the link..

20/9/04 Collection. A bench is being purchased in memory of Danny and the Club will be making a contribution to this fund. If you would like to make a personal donation then Garry Mitchener (01935 428258) will be collecting. The funeral at the crematorium is open to anyone that would like to attend, there will be a small family presence but it is expected the majority will be friends and fellow riders.

17/9/04 David (Danny) Ellery. The funeral service will take place this Tuesday, 21 September, at 2pm at Yeovil Crematorium. Further details as soon as they are known.

14/9/04 Late Results. Apologies for the delay in posting the results the 12 August are now on the results page. The final results from the last 5s will be available shortly.

13/9/04 Another crash victim. Shaun Walsh has also been in the wars, having just recovered from his crash caused by the broken tri-bar, he was involved in an incident whilst out on a Sunday ride. He and a friend were overtaken by an irrate car driver who then promptly stopped in front of them and Shuan crashed into the back of the vehicle. He has lost several teeth, had 25 stitches, damaged his jaw and has just returned home after nearly a week in hospital. Get well soon Shaun.

11/9/04 David (Danny) Ellery died on Wednesday evening in Yeovil Hospital. Our sincere condolences go to his wife Pat and daughter Georgina. It is not yet known when, or where, the funeral will take place. Once the details are available, and Pat's wishes known, the Club will take the appropriate action on behalf of all of those that have known Danny and wish to express their sorrow at his tragic death.

28/8/04 Open 10 on the move again. The Open 10 will be run on the Frome by-pass course again this September. Following the refusal of the Highways Agency to grant us permission to place our safety signs on the A303 we cannot run the event on the U30/10. The HQ will be Trudoxhill Village Hall, start time and date remain the same, 3.00pm on Saturday 25 September.

If you are not riding but able to help with the marshalling then I would be delighted to hear from you, I am away from 4 to 10 September, but there is someone at home so either drop me an e-mail or leave me a message.

Thanks. David.

23/8/04 Results. There were a fair few Yeovil riders in the Elm Tree Wheelers 25 on 22 August

18/8/04 Change to Calendar. The 10 this week will be a 5. The HQ and start time remain the same. We have been advised, by W S Atkins, that our safety signs will be removed, if placed on the A303, negotiations are ongoing...

6/8/04 New faces. Thursday evening's TT saw some new faces and the return of another. Neil Coleman (Alcan Bianchi) went round in an impressive 20.43 (I am sure it was much easier for the later starters as the wind definitely dropped - Ed). Paul Sparks, put on a good show for his supporters by clocking a PB. The handicap times for next week will be published early next week. 5 Aug.

To enter you need to have ridden a minimum of five 10s, of which three must be in this season on the U30/10, if you have ridden five or more this year (there will have been eight run by the time of the event) then the fastest five times will count. If you have only ridden three or four then your fastest times from last year will count. There is no formal entry, if you qualify your time will have been calculated and your handicap time published on the results board.

Results from 29 July.

Don't forget the Crits at Merryfield on 30 August. Entries to Brian Pearse, details in the BC calendar.

28/7/04 Off and on. SOMERSET ROAD CLUB OPEN 25 ON THE U30 ON SUNDAY AUG 29TH IS CANCELLED; The reason for this is heavy bank hols traffic predicted. SRC have discussed the situation with the West district & decided to cancel in these circumstances.
" We do not wish to make the present situation worse, the traffic will be heavy that weekend, it is not worth the risk of an accident." says Ray Pollard of SRC, " Unfortunately the Sunday allocated date usually falls the weekend after the bank holiday weekend but this year the holiday is late in August, hence the clash.

However the Yeovil CC promotion at Ilton on the 30 August is still on as are the following events promoted by Mid Devon.

16/7/04 Looking for a break. Well how does the South West of France sound? Situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Corbieres region is as stunning a location for cycling as any in France. From the flat coastal plain in the East, to the Pyrenees themselves, the region offers every backdrop to accompany your training or touring, and to inspire, regardless of level of fatigue! Interested, then check out www.corbieresbiketours.com. Why this site? well it is a business venture of our own Dave Walters.

14/7/04 Injury update. Terry and Jamie were both taken to Hospital but released later yesterday evening. Terry has a collarbone injury and has to go back to see if it needs pinning, whilst Jamie needs no further treatment. The crash was caused by the dog which lurks on the first corner, a rider took evasive action to miss the dog and it caused the prang (don't blame the dog, it is the owner that should be put down!).

Deda Tri Bars Update: Vince Hounsome would appear to have suffered an identical failure to Yeovil CC's Shaun Walsh of his Deda Tri- bars at the New Forest CC open '25' last Sunday. Apparently he rode over a slight lump in the road & the clamp fixing fractured suddenly & almost catastrophically, virtually putting his nose on the front wheel. Vince is an experienced TT rider & a mechanical/structural engineer to boot... He has no idea why the clamp should fail in such a way, considering the bars are relatively new and he does not abuse them. Luckily the traffic was v.v. light at the time and although partly crossing the road before clipping the nearside verge, was able to keep upright & continue to the finish, holding the offending bars, to record a suprisingly decent time...

Not sure whether this bodes well for the product, but perhaps other riders should be made aware of these recent problems..

13/7/04 Results Now that I have finished sunning myself in Sardinia it is time to catch up on the news from last week. In chronological order:

Open 25. Yeovil CC scooped the team prize with Mike Loader, Andy Millward and Nick Young the counting riders with a total time of 2:53:14. Shaun Walsh had a rather nasty accident when the weld on his Deda tri-bars failed and he was sent crashing onto the tarmac, virtually in sight of the finish line. Luckily the traffic was light and the vehicles near him came to his assistance very promptly. He has now been released from Hospital but will be off work for a while. If you have similar tri-bars give them a thorough check!

Evening 10. The rather unseasonal weather meant Thursdays TT was cancelled, although not raining the A303 was rather too wet to risk another accident.

Merryfield. Carrying on the theme, and in an attempt to emulate the Tour there was yet another crash tonight, Terry White being one of the casualties. I will update you on his progress when I here more. The ambulance was on it's way to the scene when I left.

For Sale. Chris Absolom has had a tidy up and found the following bits lying around: Cinelli Angel Ahead Tri-bars, price new £179.95, for sale at £70. ITM CX2 Black Ahead Tri-bars, price new £127.95, for sale at £70. HED rear disc, price new £400, for sale at £200. Shimano Bar-end levers 7/8 speed, £30. Shimano Bar-end levers 8/9 speed, £30. Wheels - still use screw on cassettes? read on, Wolber profil sprint rims, stainless steal spokes, Mavic sealed bearing hubs, complete with tubs £30. If you are interested in any of the items give him a ring on 01935 477965.

Phil Collinson is leaving us to return to the North West, and the doesn't want to be seen in those wimpy southern colours, so he would like to sell some nearly new kit. He has a Skinsuit and road vest, both size 4 and a Training top, size 5 all at half their original price. I currently have them, cleaned and nicely repacked, if anyone is interested then give me a ring, 01963 440291, or drop me an e-mail.

2/7/04 Evening 10 Results for last night, 1 July. Merryfield Crits don't forget to send your entries into Brian Pearse for the event on 18 July, for more info download the pdf file by clicking here.

29/6/04 Open 25 The start sheets for the Open 25 this Sunday have now gone out, or you can download a pdf version by clicking on the following link, Start Sheet. The HQ is The Nuffield Club at RNAS Yeovilton, first rider off is at 8.01am.

27/6/04 What a night The wind was in a just the right direction, sheltered on the way out and a roaring tail wind on the way back, with everyone recording a PB and the course record falling. Don't you wish that you had ridden now instead of watching the football! ...well actually the results might tell a slightly different story! 26 June.

23/6/04 TVCRA 4-up And the winner was... the team in grey. Could the conditions have been any worse? Gale force winds and torrential rain and yet still 15 teams braved the conditions. A huge thank you to Chris Absolom for organising the event and to all the helpers that stood in the pouring rain whilst we mad fools completed six laps of the perimeter circuit. Yeovil did particularly well with the prizes, so generously donated by Scorpion CS, with the Youth taking first prize, Yeo taking the 1st Junior in a team and the Inveterates winning the handicap (the handicap being that there were only three of us to start with – Dave Walters having some excuse about falling of his bike!).

You can download a Word version of the results by clicking here.

16/6/04 John Andrews Memorial Road Race Is on. Start sheets will be sent out today or you can download a pdf version here.

15/6/04 John Andrews Memorial Road Race We are waiting until tomorrow morning in a last ditch attempt to keep the event going, if the permit has not arrived in the post the event will be cancelled at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday). A note will be posted on this site at that time confirming exactly what is happenening.

14/6/04 Evening 25 TTs After careful consideration the Committee have decided that it is not practicable to run the evening 25 mile TTs. The number of signs required to meet the minimum risk assessment is too great for the number of riders that are liable to participate, therefore the scheduled 25s will all change to 10s on the U30/10.

Results for last weeks 10. 10 June

John Andrews Memorial Road Race There have been some administrative difficulties with the permits for the new course, as yet we still do not have the required permits. A definite decision will be made tomorrow evening as to whether the event can be run or not. Hopefully it will and the start sheets will be sent out 1st Class post on Thursday (a pdf version will be posted here tomorrow evening).

10/6/04 A303 time trial courses The first event passed off safely, with a puncture being the only problem. The expected hoards of riders did not appear, obviously the news of the re-instatement hasn't filtered through to everyone yet.

TVCRA 4 up. For those that haven't yet realised the 4 up is on a Tuesday this year, next week in fact and it will be held at Merryfield, instead of the usual training session. This of course means the Thursday evening event will be a 10, not another 4-up as appears in the published schedule, starting at 7.30. The Calendar page has been amended to reflect the changes. You can download a start sheet for the 4-up by clicking on the link.

07/6/04 A303 time trial courses The West DC have re-instated the courses which use the A303 with immediate effect, but subject to some additional safety precautions to reflect the above average risk of this particular road. In addition to the existing time and traffic restrictions the course cannot be used by novice riders, Juniors will be allowed to ride (provided they are experienced riders) subject to a special parental approval form which will highlight the above average risk of the course. The West DC further consider that the 'safer' aspects of a dual carriageway are completely negated when there is poor visibilty, so if the conditions mean less than 100m visibility the event cannot proceed, or must be stopped immediately. A minimum standard of signing and marshalling has been agreed for both Open and Club events.

The Yeovil CC Open 25 will go ahead on Sunday 4 July, organiser Stuart Wroot. The evening events will return to the U30/10 course this week, subject to the conditions above. The new parental consent form will be available on the evening (Any junior will not be allowed to ride unless it is signed).

The 1st Chard Wheelers Open 10, 3 July, has been cancelled.

05/06/04 John Andrews Road Race. The closing date has already passed but if you get your entry in to Mike Northcott before close of play on Tuesday he will still accept it. The race is on the new Langport circuit and there are only 40 entrants so far, so if you are looking for some more points on your license this could be a good one.

03/06/04 Roadworks. The bad news is that they are still in force and will be there tonight. Therefore no event this evening.

Results of the Poole Wheelers 10 TT on Bank Holiday Monday.
Mike Loader was the best placed YC rider at 5th. Jon Booth took over two and a half mins off his PB
whilst Hugo also gained a new pb. Chris Ball set a new course record of 19.10 (think the previous record had stood since 1998 at 19.28).

02/06/04 Roadworks still in place The Yeovilton road still has ongoing roadworks, so it looks as though tomorrow evenings 5 is in doubt. There are still traffic lights and a short section of single carriageway. If we can get a definite all clear a note will be posted on the website tomorrow afternoon, otherwise assume it is off.

Somerset Council have contacted YCC regarding their wish to promote a „come and try‰ event as part of
National Bike Week. To this end, a volunteer is required to lead a short, very slow Œclub‚ run, very much like Mike Northcott has done before. The run would leave the Yeovil Sports and Social Club on Sunday 20th June at 10.00 am, cover a distance of 15 miles, returning to the Club. A suitable route has already been decided and I have restricted the number of riders to a maximum of 15.
If interested, please contact Mike Loader by Thursday 3rd June.

01/6/04 Merryfield Back to normal this week. I will have the new clothing with me or at Podimore on Thursday if that is easier.

24/05/04 No Merryfield this Tuesday Please be aware that there will be no training at Merryfield this Tuesday 25th May. The Merryfield open day normally scheduled for a Wednesday is this year to be held this Tuesday. Sorry for the short notice. Normal service resumes next week.
Please send your TVCRA 4 up entry forms to me at 54 Heather Way, Yeovil BA22 8DZ
I need them this week so the Pub can cater for numbers. Chris Absolom.

As no Merryfield this week - there will be an autobus leaving the Chippy at 1800 taking the normal 'Winter' route please join in.

Obviously I shall not be at Merryfield with the kit on Tuesday as promised, I will be out on Thursday. David Notley.

U30/10 and U30/25. The meeting to discuss safety issues, with the local police, on the A303 took place yesterday. It was a positive, full and frank meeting, the West DC now have to consider all the safety issues raised and assess the overall risks. That meeting will take place on Sunday 6 June, and will produce a definite decision on the future use of the A303 courses.

22/05/04 Evening TT Result. It is really pleasing to see so many riders out for the Thursday evening ride. Despite the blustery conditions there was a turnout of nearly 30 riders this week. Most were within a few seconds of there previous weeks time, notable exceptions were John Booth (obviously that new bike must have retained some of Dave Pitmans speed) and Dan Whaites who returned to his opening form. There is a table on the records page for those that want to study the form. 20 May Results.

The meeting with the police this Sunday should produce a result, one way or the other, so hopefully we will know a next weeks event when we can return to the U30/10 and 25.

21/05/04 Clothing. It has finally arrived, albeit eight weeks late. If you are in urgent need of your kit then give me a ring on 01963 440291, otherwise I will have it with me on Tuesaday at Merryfield or Thursday at Podimore. David Notley.

15/05/04 Evening TTs. The 5 mile course is proving quite a challenge, with riders adjusting to the different discipline. But it is also proving quite popular with over twenty local riders again this week. Results for 13 May.

Winners. Last weekend saw more success for the YCC Team. This time it was Mike Loader, Andy Millward and James Hector that took the title in the Weymouth CC 10, with Mike and Andy in second and third place respectively. Shawn Walsh also came away from the VTTA (west) 25, on the U49, with first prize for the 40-55 age group.

Don't forget the TVCRA team time trial. If you haven't already got your team together, or if you have but you haven't got your entry form, you can download either a Word or pdf form here.

07/05/04 Merryfield. The strong winds and the potential rain detered most riders this week, but a determined bunch of 15 managed to get in a few dry laps, and no-one fell off! James has recovered from his crash and even made it out to the evening time trial this week.

Time Trials. There was another good turn out this week, boosted by a strong Team Tor 2000 contingent. Chris Absolom looked in serious mood but the course record was not challenged, thanks mainly to the strong cross winds in both direction. Results for 6 May.

Clothing. I have been assured the clothing is ready and is being dispatched soon. I'll let you know when it arrives!

29/4/04 Must try harder. This weeks evening TT was a two up and the Absolom/Millward team took the honours, no surprise there, but in a slower time than Andy clocked whilst riding solo last week! Was there a master plan or was Chris slowing him down?! Results for the event are here, 29 April, or all the results and the updated table are now on the Results Page.

26/4/04 Weekend results. Shaun Walsh and Dave Driver competed in the middle markers event on the P613 at Andover. Shaun took third place with a 22.20 whilst Dave had a masssive improvement in his current PB down from 25.02 to 23.32 (and that would have given him an excellent vets standard time of +6.58). Meanwhile the P415 saw Chris Absolom (55.03) lead in Andy Millward (55.37), John Clemit (57.88) and Hugo Baldacchino (58.44) in the Bournemouth Arrow 25.

Take your Partners. The evening 5 this week is a two up, if you have not managed to get a partner there are sure to be others in the same situation on Thursday so turn up and pair up.

Meeting delayed. The meeting with the Police to discuss the A303 has been rescheduled for Sunday 23rd May, so it looks like we will have to survive with the 5 course for a little longer.

23/4/04 Evening Time Trials. The new five course is attracting a reasonable crowd each Thursday and the course record is now down to 11.16 thanks to Andy Millward. Results for this week and last can be downloaded by clicking on the following links. 22 April, 15 April. The meeting with the police to discuss their concerns over safety is scheduled for 4th May, depending on the outcome of that meeting the CTT West District Committee will review the suspension of the course (hopefully as soon as possible after 4th May). As soon as there is some news I will post it here.

For those that have asked for, or ordered new clothing, I am afraid to say I am still waiting for Provision to get their act together, despite constant chasing I still do not have a definite delivery date. Again as soon is there is any news I will post a note on the website.

6/4/04 Closing Date. If you want to enter the Open 10 on Saturaday 17 April I will hold the closing date open until this Saturday morning, so if you entry is in by then you should get a ride. Start sheets will be sent out on Saturday evening by e-mail or Monday 1st Class post. David Notley.

5/4/04 All change. As some of you may already be aware the West DC (CTT) has introduced a temporary suspension of all courses in their area which use the A303, pending safety talks with the local police. This means both our Open event and our club evening events will have to move. The Spring Open 10 will be held on the U361, Frome By-pass, at the same time and date as the U30/10 was originally scheduled (15.00 on Saturday 17 April), the HQ will be Trudoxhill Village Hall. The evening time trials will be moved onto the B3151, Yeovilton to Ilchester road. We are currently seeking emergency approval of a 5 mile course which will use the Podimore Services as the HQ still. The start will be at the eastern end of the camp road, proceed to the Northover roundabout at Ilchester and retrace the outward leg to finish by the layby at the eastern end of the road again. We hope to start on schedule on 15 April and it is hoped that this will be a short term temporary measure. More news will be posted as soon as it is available.

30/3/04 Pittards Road Race. The full field of sixty riders in the Pittards Road race was thinned out slowly after the first two 15 mile circuits, but the final sprint at Yeovilton was still contested by a big bunch. Barry Clewett of Casterbridge Hardy emerged as the victor with Andy Holmes, Mid Devon, next and the first of the three counters for the team prize. Our own Nick Evans took third place – looks like you might hold onto the Best Result in a Yeovil CC Road Race Trophy Nick – with Martin Burrows, Mid Devon, Alan Radford and Steve Moss (the latter now a veteran but who won the trophy in 1978 as a Junior) of Bournemouth Arrow filling the top six places. Best placed Junior was Richard Boswood in seventh place.

The Ham Hill Road Race. Several small breaks looked as though they may get away but it was not until the final lap that Greg Sandy manged to escape the group he was with. Julian Winn, Pinarello, was pushing hard up the final climb of Coppitts Hill but with just ten miles to go Greg slipped away from the eventual second place man.

Thanks to everyone that helped make it such a successfull event, to all the marshals, the drivers, the girls in the kitchen (such a lovely selection of home made cakes!) and especially to Mike Northcott who stepped in to organise it all and did such a good job despite the holiday and the house purchase just a few days before the race. Well done all.

28/3/04

. Greg Sandy took victory just 50 metres ahead of the main bunch after getting away on the run through from Yeovil to Mudford.

John Buckley, Financial Director of Pittards presents the trophy to B Clewett

Nick Evans was the best placed Yeovil rider with his third in the Pittards. The full report to follow tomorrow.

22/3/04 Holy hurricane Batman. In some of thw indiest conditions ever encountered the Ilton race series pushed off with the Team Tor 2000 event. Merryfield Airfield, Ilton. Taking over 20 minutes to complete the first 2 laps the E12 group stayed together, but soon after the start of the third lap an ejection of pace from the bunch saw the group shatter with the pair Roy Smith (Team Training FX) and eventual race winner Greg Sandy (Team Alcan) on their own. With under a lap to go Greg Sandy applied the pressure and left Roy standing in his wake, crossing the line an impressive minute clear.

In the 3/J race with constant attacking the bunch was splitting and reforming throughout the race. In the end persistence paid off for Rex Facey (First Chard Wheelers) finishing around 15 seconds ahead of the only bunch sprint of the day, which was won by William Hornby (Mid Devon CC).

In the 4th Cat race the riders with strength showed early on with the race splitting apart from the gun. The eventual top 5 staying together to the end. When the final sprint stretched them out which made the judges life easy. Other riders finished in ones and two's, showing some great resilience to just get to the finish line, well done to all.

19/3/04 Track sessions at Newport from Mike Dennis. I've provisionally booked track sessions at Newport every last weekend in the month from April to October, at 4pm-7pm on Sundays, exclusively for our SW clubs. The October one will be (probably) from 10am to 6pm (or thereabouts) as it will be the SW Div Track Championships. I would very much like to develop the programme now that most regulars have reached a good level of safety competence. It would be nice to include more motor-pacing, and more complex coaching for (eg) madison racing in pairs. If anyone is intersted then Mike can be contacted on 01823 490499 (home), 01823 355378 (office), 07767 692184 (mobile) email mgdennis@somerset.gov.uk

Spring Open 10. Don't forget the closing date for entries for our Open 10 on Saturday 17 April is Tuesday 6 April, whilst I will hold it open for a few days longer if the field is full on that date I cannot accept any late entries. And if you aren't riding I shall be on the hunt for marshals, free tea and cake! volunteers please. David Notley.

14/3/04 Pittards and Ham Hill Road Races. The start sheets for our early season races will be sent out this week. If you cannot wait you can view a pdf copy by clicking on the image or this link, start sheet.

The Pittards is nearly a full field, with 59 entries, and the ham Hill has 44 riders. There is no entry on the line this year but we are hoping that any entries that arrive after the closing date will be allowed to ride. This has to be authorised by the Division as soon as a decision has been made it will be posted on the website.

There will be no club run on the 28 March, if you are not already helping then please contact Garry on 01935 428258 if you can spare some time to help.

9/3/04 Welcome back. Andy Pugsley has kindly agreed to take on the job of Time Trial Secretary, for those that have been around a while Andy will be a familiar face as he did a lot of work as our TT Secretary some years ago. Andy will be looking for volumteers to help with the signing etc. so if you can help then please drop him an e-mail or speak to him on a Thursday evening.

Final Call. If you haven't paid your subs for this year then you have just two weeks left before it costs you an extra £3.00, so don't delay get your cheque off to Mike Loader a.s.a.p.

It is not long until the first road race of the season and as I am sure you are aware we do not have a road race secretary for this year. The event is on Sunday 28 March, with the HQ at the Nuffield Sports Bar, RNAS Yeovilton. You can contact Mike on 01458 273576.

14/01/04 Club clothing. There was a small bit in the Newsletter asking for any clothing requirements for 2004, the response was rather underwhelming to say the least. The delivery time on clothing can be up to three months at this time of year so we need to make sure there is sufficient in stock for 2004 (and possibly 2005 too). We do not have any clothing in size 5 or above (40" chest) so if you think you might want some this year please can you e-mail me. I just need to know to get the order under way, you don't have to pay for them until you want them. David Notley.

Subs. These are due now. For existing members the fee is £12 (£5 juniors, juveniles and full time students). There will be a reminder in the next newsletter which will be sent out next week.
