Please make the effort and come along and help us plan a great 2011. Forum. There is now a link to the Club Forum on the side menu 2 September Evening TT Series A fantastic turn out for the handicap. Congratulations to Ian Smith, who knocked 25 seconds off his pb to put in the best performance of the night and win the handicap, closely followed by Dan Bowditch and Jacob Newbury. Results
Club Buffet. Make a note in your diary for Friday 26 November, when our annual celebration will take place at the Sports Club, starting at 7:30. More information in the October newsletter. Forum. We now have a club forum, on which members (only) can post. There are a number of sections: training, for sale and discussions. The site will be administered to keep the topics and comments in their appropriate areas. So log on and find out what your fellow riders are up to. You can find the forum at www.yeovilcc.freeforums.org Tuesday Evening Training Sessions. Now that Merryfield has finished for the season, and the time trials are nearing their conclusion, the Tuesday evening circuit will start. More details to follow. 27 August Evening TT Series If it isn’t windy then it has to be wet. The dull and damp conditions didn’t deter the dozen riders that turned out – I know it only says eleven above but Doug Ward very generously gave up his ride to marshal – and we even had a tie for first place. Results 23 August Evening TT Series The predicted torrential rain never made it as far as us, but the poor light would have made it too risky to run the scheduled 10. For the few optimists that came we were able to run a 5. Results 19 August Evening TT Series Decision time. It is still dry but heavy rain is still forecast sometime between now and 7pm so we will try for a five tonight. 6:45 start. 19 August Evening TT Series The forecast for tonight is for heavy rain from late afternoon, if it is on schedule then the 10 will be cancelled. If it is heavy rain then we will not run a five either, in which case "see you next week". 12 August Evening TT Series Well the biggest handicap on the night was the weather, a strong cross headwind on the way out and equally strong but affording little help on the way back. Ian Smith came very close to a pb and as a result he won the handicap, results below.
Weekly Results 6 August Evening TT Series Another warm evening and another strong wind on the outward leg which didn't give much help on the way back. And it would seem that Tandems are just like buses, you never see them then two turn up at once! A great turn out and pleasing to see some more new competitors. Just a reminder that we are back to a 6:45 start next week. Results

cdenby@ndevon.ac.uk 30 July Evening TT Series Another warm evening but a strong headwind on the outward leg made it slow going. Just one second seperated the winner and second place, Shaun Walsh and Mike Loader. Results 23 July TVCRA Bunch Riding Training On the next TVCRA Tuesday night training at Ilton , 27th July, British Cycling are running a coached session on bunch riding. All are welcome, if you are not a TVCRA member a come try it pass can be used to come along. These available from your club TVCRA rep, in our case Mark Plummer, (0777 573 4134). The session will start at the usual 1900 and gates will be open at 1830. 23 July Evening TT Series The threatening rain looked potentially too hazardous for the scheduled 10 on the A303, we ran a 5 instead. The rain stopped just in time and everyone got round in the dry, which was quite lucky as there had been some very heavy showers just a few miles away. Results 18 July Evening TT Series The rain came down just at the wrong time for our second "Come and Try it' of the year, but none the less some new riders braved the damp conditions. Results Club Clothing If you missed the announcement below the new clothing is now in. If you ordered some and were not at the TT on Thursday I will contact you in the next few days and arrange to get it to you. David (01963 440291). Apologies if you tried to visit the website earlier today and got a 'file error' the site was moved to a new, and faster, server. The whole site had to be uploaded an that took a while. If you come across anything that is not working please let me know, email. 16 July Women’s Invitation Rides The club, in the form of Michael Ives and Roddy Payne, are organising a 15 to 20 mile ride for the ladies. Join them for a short guided ride starting and finishing at Johnson Park. All are welcome regardless of age or ability; only a bicycle and the desire to enjoy cycling are required. Meet at Johnson Park, Yeovil Sports Club on Wednesday 7.00 p.m., the first ride will be on 21st July followed by another a week later, 28th July 2010. For more information contact 07595 050880. Flying again Dave Driver and Shaun Walsh did it again. The latest tandem record time was set last Saturday on the P613/ 10, dropping it to the magic 19.45. 13 July Club Clothing The new clothing has arrived today. I will do my best to have it sorted and ready for collection on Thursday evening at the TT. If you cannot make it then I will contact you to arrange getting it to you asap. David 8 July Evening TT Series Another good ride from Tom with Chris, Shaun and Mark all in close order behind. Results. As we near the half way point of the seaon we will publish the points table soon. 6 July Open 25 Yeovil are in the prizes again. The team of Michael Loader, Chris Martin & Hugo Baldacchino took the team prize with and overall time of 2:57:07. Dave Driver won the vets on standard with a +18:17, and that just the day after he and Shaun lowered the Tandem record, for their age group, to 20:09 on the P613. Overall prize winners were: 1st Simon Edney, North Devon Wheelers, 54:34 Thanks to all the helpers, to Andy Greatwood, Dennis Davis and Derek Todd for timekeeping, to all the Yeovil CC members: David Notley, Garry Mitchener, Shaun Walsh, Michael Ives, Ricky Gibbs, Stuart Wroot, Bob Galvin, Andy Gaylard and Alex Walsh for marshalling, and to Carol for food and drinks. Results Sheet (Word doc). 2 July Evening TT Series Yet another new course is christened and the course record goes to Dave Moffett. There were on or two comments on the safety of the turn where we rejoin the 5 course, namely riders either swinging out too wide (potentially into the path of oncoming traffic) and cutting the corner on the return leg (again potentially into the path of oncoming traffic). For any further events on the course we will insist that riders do not cross the white line or cut the corner – anyone doing so be disciplined depending on the severity of the offence – you have been warned! Results 27 June Open 25 we have a field of 46 for the Open 25 next Sunday morning, the event starts at 7:35, with the last man off at 8:20 all the riders should be home by 9:30. The race HQ is at RNAS Yeovilton, a lot of the usual Sunday morning club run riders will be helping with the marshalling, but there may still be a club run if enough riders turn out at 9am (it may even come out to the HQ and then on a shorter run from there). Start sheet 26 June Evening TT Series The next event will be on the new 9 course that we thought we might not be able to use when the roadworks started, but as they are now gone we will give it a try this week and see what the verdict is. HQ is Yeovilton as normal. Course starts near the Health Centre on the West Camel road out of Queen Camel. From the start head back to the HQ and rejoin the five course. Instead of heading out towards the A303 on the return leg the finish is back near the start, so turn next right after the HQ. Results 19 June Catch Up. Racing Returns to the Mendips on the 25th July 2010 with the Colin Carfield Memorial Road Race. The event is open to 2nd, 3rd and 4th category riders and is over a distance of 65 miles in the Mendips starting at 10.00am. The race takes in 4 climbs around the Mendips Hills - Burington Combe , Two trees , lower Bristol Road And Finally finishing up Smithens Hill ! With a prize fund of £500 plus. Lets bring racing back to the Mendips , ride and support the event and watch the final stage of the tour once its over ! Evening TT Series Results from the last two weeks. 10th June and 17th June. More to follow as I go through my backlog of emails 7 June Taunton based rides from Mike Dennis. On the last day of National Bike Week, 27th June, I will be running loads of rides from Taunton. The idea is to involve as many folk as possible, so there will be family rides from 15 miles upwards, and two great rides for committed cyclists of 63 and 100miles. The 100 miler takes in Cheddar Gorge, the beach between Brean and Burnham, and The Quantocks. Full details are on our website. The start will be from the Bicycle Chain in Chip Lane, Taunton (gold star start at 9am, other rides from 9-11am ) and route cards for stamping and maps will be provided. Emergency mechanical back-up will be supplied, to encourage less experienced cyclists. I do hope you will be able to join me on that day, and there will be a superb cyclists’ goody-bag for all riders. Michael Dennis, Environment Directorate, Somerset County Council. Tel: 01823 35 8239 email: mgdennis@somerset.gov.uk 4 June Evening TT Series A lovely summers evening saw the course record fall again. Chris Martin clocked a 12:46, a 28 second improvement on his previous best, but the new record only stood for a few minutes as Mike Loader powered his way around the course in 12:39. Results. Don't forget that we have two 'Come and Try it' events scheduled in the next few weeks. The first is on Thursday 17 June, and Thursday 15 July. Now that the road works have finished we will be using the Ilchester 5 course with the HQ being the Sports Pavilion at RNAS Yeovilton. Because of the uncertainty about the course and HQ we have not publicised the event as much as normal so please spread the word and persuade a few friends or colleagues to come and have a go. 2 June John Andrews Memorial Road Race The entries have now closed as we already have a full field plus Reserves. A start sheet will be e-mailed to all competitors in the next day or two, if you cannot wait you can download a pdf version of the Start Sheet on the following link, John Andrews Start Sheet 28 May Evening TT Series The contractors have confirmed that the roadworks on the five course will re-start next week, but the good news is that they will be for one week only and then they are finished, so we can go back to the Yeovilton course. We will have the 'come and try it" event there on the 17 June and can decide whether we want to continue with some events on the Sparkford circuit. The strong Northerly breeze did little to help and more to hinder so it was a tough night. Tom Alliban still managed to put in a sub 22 minute ride, whilst Mike Loader was the highest placed Yeovil rider. Results 25 May Weekend Results Thanks to Hugo for the following round up. Wales obviously agrees with Chris Martin who got a new 25 mile pb improving on last years 56.30 with 55.49 this time round on the same course. Was this a 10 and 25 mile pb for Martyn Whitmarsh on consecutive days? Not bad for one weekend! Alex should be ducking back under the 23 minute mark for 10 miles in another 13 races based the weekends results. Pontypool Road Cycling Club 23rd May on the R25/7 Camel Valley 10 23rd May S103/10 Wessex RC 50 23rd May P417 VTTA West 10 23rd May U47B Sotonia CC Middle Markers 10 22nd May on P613 23 May YCC pair claim National Record Dave Driver and Shaun Walsh claimed a Tandem national age group record on Saturdayon the P613/10. They recorded a time of 20.53, and it was not a fast day, so they are hoping that there is more to come later in the year. Well done lads (though with a combined age of 129 perhaps lads is stretching it a bit!) 21 May Evening TT Series The riders that tackled the first of the two circuit events at Sparkford showed a remarkable display of consistent riding with lap times within a few seconds for each lap. Chris Martin now holds the course record for both the one lap and two lap events, and the split time he posted for the first lap was even quicker than the current single circuit record. Results 15 May Evening TT Series Some times were revised from the list displayed at HQ to account for some riders having been sent off earlier than their scheduled start times. Sorry if you are disappointed but there were some honest souls who said their times were wrong. Thank you! Results ASHFORDS COMMUNITY TEAM RACES on THURSDAY 3rd June.
The Exeter round of the Tour Series in 2009 was hailed as one of the most successful of the 10 race series,
prior to the Professional Race, amongst a host of day long activities there is a chance for you to take part in the Ashfords Community Team Races on the closed road circuit.
Last year 30 teams competed for the fastest time. This year there are spaces for 90 teams in the event kindly sponsored by Ashfords Solicitors. The racing is being managed by British Cycling but anyone being from a club, business or community group can enter a team. 6 May Evening TT Series The second attempt saw most people improve on their inaugural times, and when we get some warm weather and a change in the wind direction the times should improve further still. It is the 2up next week on the 10 course, 7:15 start. Results
30 April BC Training Oppurtunity British Cycling are offering the opportunity to train club members as the regions future event organisers and commissaries. By participating in these one day training sessions you will be laying the foundations to cater for the demand that now exists in the South West. You do not have to be a seasoned road racer to volunteer and your commitment can be limited to two weekends a year. Training courses can be organised where there is demand and there are no costs involved to participate. To have a look at some of the work that has already been carried out with South West clubs and the support that your Regional team and workgroup can offer you visit these links: Training, Commissaire. Andy Parker, South West Regional Events Officer, Mobile 07940302224. Email: andrewparker@britishcycling.org.uk 26 April West DC Team Championships A reminder that the West DC 10 mile Team Championship is to be held on the 15 May and is on the U40 (Lyneham). Yeovil CC could do well if three or four riders entered, Shaun Walsh is already entered and as he says "there is nothing else on that weekend". 23 April Evening TT Series The first 10 of the season was run in beautiful sunshine, but with a rapidly dropping sun and temperature. The sudden arrival of loose chippings over the turn got everyone’s heart racing but did little for the times. Results 22 April Clothing Sale As a thank you to everyone that has helped with the club promotions over the years the club has decided to spend some of the profit we have made on the road races and time trials on subsidising the clothing. Road Vests £20.00 (were £31) The existing clothing will be on sale at the evening TT events and at the next committee meeting (10 May) or you can contact me to reserve an item (01963 440291). 20 April TT Results Spring 10 Results (pdf format). 18 April Spring Open 10 TT Julius Jennings (Revo Racing) celebrated his birthday in style by winning the Yeovil promotion, with David Kiddell (Cavalier CC) and Mark Wareham (Chippenham & District Wheelers) making the top three. Julius completed the course in 21 minutes dead, with David 19 seconds in arrears and Mark a further 8 seconds back. The top three were followed by Dave Moffett (1st Chard Wheelers) 21:35 and Simon Baynes (Giant CC) and Andrew Legge (Bristol South CC) tied for 5th on 22:14. The highest placed Yeovil rider was Chris Martin at 22:33 just 10 seconds ahead of scratch man Michael Loader also from the host club. Veterans Standard prize also went to a rider from Yeovil, Dave Driver with a plus of 7:59. Sarah Dunn from Somerset RC took the Womens prize whilst the Bristol South trio of Andrew Legge, James Reis and Daniel Kempe won the Team Prize 67:51. Results sheets will be available tomorrow. 16 April 2010 Evening TT Series The inaugural run of the Sparkford based UC301 course met with approval, even if there were a few moans and groans about it being ‘a bit lumpy’. Course record to Chris Martin and a PB for everyone, what more could you want!! HQ for next Thursday is RNAS Yeovilton. Results. 15 April Road Race Results Better late than never. Firstly thanks to everyone from the club that helped to make these two races such a well run and exciting event. Ever aspect of the race was praised by all concerned, from the riders to the Commissaires. Both races were more or less incident free thanks to the efficient marshalling and the three National Escort Group motorcycles we had on each race, which meant the riders could concentrate on what they do best, racing. Both races were quick and highly competitive with constant attacks and small breaks. Anthony Morris and Mark Plummer were the first YCC competitors in several years, unforetunately Anthony was ill and could not start, but Mark did survive until the last lap when in a very selfless gesture he helped a fellow rider who had unshipped his chain, but they were then unable to regain contact with the main bunch. Not a good tactic for winning but a great advert for the Club! Pittards Trophy 1 Charles Rees Gillingham and District Wheelers/Wheels Cycles Ham Hill 1 Chris Opie Pendragon - Le Col - Colnago 14 April 2010 Evening TT Series HQ for Thursday 15th April will be Sparkford. Last weeks results. 11 April Spring Open 10 The start sheets have been e-mailed out today and the printed ones are in the post on Monday, or you can download a pdf version on the following link, YCC Start Sheet 7 April 2010 Evening TT Series HQ for Thursday 8th April will be Yeovilton. Althougfh the road works have started there are only two small holes near Ilchester. The entrance and exit to the roundabout are narrower than usual thanks to the barriers around the hole but there is still plenty of room. So unless there is a dramatic change tomorrow we will be at the Sports Pavillion as normal. 5 April 2010 Evening TT Series The 2010 series starts here, even if it felt like winter still. The rain held off just long enough to let most riders finish in the dry but the cold and strong wind hardly made it a great start. It was a really close battle for first place with three riders clocking under 12 minutes, Charles, Rick and Hugo. The battle of the teenagers, young and old, also started with some close finishes. The course for next week will be posted here on Wednesday evening, either Yeovilton or Sparkford, depending on the situation with the roadworks. Results 31 March Road Races. We have a full field plus reserves for each of the road races, in fact we could have put on a third race the field was so over subscribed! Start sheets will be going out in the post tomorrow or you can download a pdf version by clicking on the following link, Pittards Trophy and Ham Hill Start Sheet. We now have a full compliment of drivers but do need a gear measurer and caterer, see below. 28 March TVCRA Passes. Mark Plummer now has the pass request forms. You can contact Mark on secretary@yeovilcc.com and he will arrange to send you the form. Evening TT Series Starts this week, with a 5 on the Yeovilton course. HQ the Sports Pavillion as usual. 27 March Help needed for the Road Races. We are currently short of the following to help with the events on Sunday 11th April. The event starts at 10am and should be over by 2pm. a lead car driver If you are able to assist please contract Shaun Walsh as soon as possible on 01749 812298 23 March TimeTrials If you are planning to ride any open events this year you will now find the start sheets carry the following recommendation 'It is recommended that a working rear light, either flashing or constant, is fitted to the machine, in a position visible to following road users and is active whilst the machine is in use'. The new evening TT course has been submitted for approval. It is a six mile circuit starting and finishing in Sparkford. The plan is to use the course instead of the 5 and 9 mile events, running a 6 or 12 respectively instead. HQ is under consideration. There are two options for the finish, the first is at the start area, or the layby opposite the Little Weston turning for an extra mile. The 10 mile events will run as scheduled.
16 March Evening TT Series and Road Race Road Works. For those that have travelled past the camp in the last few days you may have seen the sign which warns of 'Road works for the next 4 months'. There is a new gas main being laid from Ilchester to the camp, it is being done in 200m sections controlled by traffic lights. This is going to severely disrupt our TT series, only the 10 course will remian useable. We are urgently investigating options. The opening event on 1 April will take place as normal by which time we hope to have an update for you all. The Pittards and Ham Hill events may well have traffic lights on the course but we are hopeful that the contractor is going to have an operator present on the day to control the lights in the race's favour. TVCRA. The new season is not far away and here are the main points you ned to know: 1. There is no requirement for a racing licence or BC membership to participate in the Tuesday evening training sessions. It is however recommended that riders have some sort of insurance to provide cover in the event of any accident. Racing licences required as normal for open events. Clothing. We have a small design problem which we are trying to overcome. This has led to a delay in the order being placed. As soon as we have a delivery date you will be notified, but it is likely to be late April now. If that causes anyone a problem please let me know and we will see what we can do to assist. David Notley. 23 February 2010 Club Clothing UpdateThe costs have now been confirmed from Kalas. Riders stopped at one point to admire one of the few sections of tarmac. Primrose Path Thanks to Hugo for the following: Arthur and Christine organised another enjoyable edition of the Primrose Path audax ride which luckily was totally ice free this year. Early drizzle soon disappeared and light winds and some sunshine ensured the ride was a pleasant tour of Dorset's more scenic and hilly back roads. For less than the price of a typical open time trial the riders received great value for money with over 5 hours of riding including over 6000 feet of climbing with some of Christine's delicious home made quiche, beans on toast, cakes and other foods at the finish all included in the price. A great way to boost that winter base training!
More typical road conditions on the first half of the route.

There will be a training ride around Yeovil every Tuesday evening, starting this week. Meet at the Sports Club at 7pm. The ride will be around a circuit in Yeovil, all of which will be streetlit, so lights will be required to ensure you can be seen but not to see where you are going. Provided the rides are well supported they will continue until the Merryfield sessions start in April. The length and intensity of the training rides will depend on the riders on the evening. As it is a circuit if it is too fast or too long it will be easy to opt out at any stage. 10 January 2010 Club clothing night cancelled. We have decided to cancel the event for tomorrow night as whilst the Yeovil residents may be able to get there the members living in the outlying villages may not. The clothing samples will now be available at our February meeting. That will take place on Monday 8 February, so please make a note in your diary now. Looks like you might have to add Hovis to your diet now, to go with the Chris Hoy Bran Flakes, have a look at this link. 9 January 2010 A decision on the club night will be made on Sunday, it rather depends on the snow which is forecast for Sunday. If it looks as though it will be difficult, or dangerous, for members to get to the Sports Club then we will postpone the event until February. The update will be posted here on Sunday evening. 4 January 2010 Welcome to 2010 and a happy and active new year to you all.
